About Us

Tonto Day Care Centre is a non-profit, non-governmental preschool overseen by Botswana Council of Women in Letlhakane, Botswana. The preschool was established in 1983 as a community based initiative to cater to orphans and vulnerable children and other children in the community. It was established to assist with early childhood development and to help relieve the burden of childcare from working parents.
Tonto started with just 15 students and two teachers who were responsible for classroom instruction as well as general care for the school. With the help of companies in the Letlhakane community, Tonto Day Care Centre now serves over 130 children! Currently, the school has five classrooms for children ranging from 2.5 to 6 years in age. The school employs 5 trained teachers, 3 assistant teachers, a school head, office administrator, kitchen attendant, and groundskeeper.
Tonto Day Care Centre is proud to help care for children in the community, while also providing an increasing number of employment opportunities for community members as the school continues to grow and develop. Thank you for your interest in our school, it is with help from parents, community members, and outside organizations that we continue to grow and serve the Letlhakane community.
